The South Sudan Physician Organization (SSPO) is a charitable, non-governmental organization registered in South Sudan comprised of South Sudanese medical doctors. The majority of SSPO doctors received medical training in Cuba between 1990-2000 before immigrating to Canada and returning to South Sudan after the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement ended civil war with Sudan.
Many SSPO doctors have upgraded their medical training through the Sudanese Physicians Reintegration Program - a partnership between University of Calgary and Samaritan's Purse Canada. SSPO doctors strengthened their skills with the support of SSHARE - a project that was dedicated to providing continuing medical education and medical facility rehabilitation in South Sudan.
